Adding Sound to you Presentations
Budding Spielbergs beware - whoosh and ping just don't cut it
If you want to make your audience laugh, use the animation sounds that come with PowerPoint. As a presenter, I have never come across such a bizarre collection.
There's "applause" for presenters who don't have an audience, "laser" for presenters wishing to shoot any aliens that happen to beam down mid-delivery, and the sound of "screeching brakes' for presenters who would rather be Formula One drivers.
There are no sounds that are subtle enough to add an appropriate aural benefit.
Sound Effects Free Zone Think television graphics and it's rare you hear sound effects accompany the stock exchange results or weather forecast. You often hear suitable, subtle music, but not jarring, interruptive sound effects.
TV producers know that such sounds would detract from the facts being delivered. The message is paramount and takes precedence.
The upshot - don't use the standard sounds that come with PowerPoint in your presentation. The exceptions - your audience is full of children, or you aspire to being "Cheesy".
