Presentation Questions and Answers
Leave time for audience participation

Often presenters in their eagerness to impart as much information as possible, forget to leave time for questions and answers.

It's not surprising then that a common audience complaint is that the presenter ran overtime and didn't ask for any questions .

Your audience likes to participate and it's important they are given an opportunity to do so. Not just for their benefit but for yours - after all, a successful presentation is one the participants enjoy .

Often an audience is full of people with varying degrees of knowledge. While you as the presenter must balance this, there will be some participants who have additional questions.

How to Handle Presentation Q & A's
  1. Ask audience participants to submit questions via
microphone or paper. Let the audience know you will be collecting written questions at the conclusion of the presentation.
It's frustrating when a presenter and audience can't hear questions because of poor acoustics or a faulty microphone.

  2. Repeat or rephrase the question for audience members who did not hear it clearly.

  3. Request participants keep their questions to the point. No one likes rambling repetition.

  4. Don't interrupt the questionner - give them time to finish their question and then respond.

  5. Credit your participants - that's a good question, I'm glad you asked that.

Finally, make sure your answers are concise and relevant . That way you can get through a number of questions in a short space of time. An entertaining, time-effective, informative presentation is a good one.
