How do Search Engines Index?
Search engines use little software applications called spiders to index the pages on your website.
These are quite sophisticated. Spiders search through web pages looking for commonalities between the written content and html code. The more in common, the more likely the search engine will index your page.
Evaluation Criteria
Most search engines evaluate the code on your website using:
- Meta-tag title (A short sentence describing the content of your web page. This is embedded in the html code.)
- Meta-tag description (A line of html code describing the content of your web page. This is embedded in the html code.)
- Meta-tag keywords (10-15 words that users might type into a search engine to find your web page. This is embedded in the html code.)
- Body Content - the text on your web page
If there are common elements between the meta-tags and written content of your website, you have a good chance of being indexed in an appropriate category.
If you do not know how to insert meta-tags into your website, use a professional designer, or search for "how to insert meta-tags" in your favorite search engine. Further Info
