Case
Study 3
Template Central

Template Central asked Hot Chilli
to update their online presence and
website functionality. Recognised
as the world's largest supplier
of professional design templates this
innovative company offers 1000s of
do-it-yourself design products for
FrontPage, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word
and other common applications.

Our role was to create a new brand
across print and the Web that
reflected the diverse nature of Template
Central's products, services and clients.
We also needed to integrate
the new brand into extensive website
programming and functionality - including
shopping carts, online transactions
and extensive reporting features.

First, we took a close look at Template
Central's client base. A diverse bunch,
it included everyone from corporate
flyers such as AT&T Wireless,
BHP/Billiton and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu,
to SMEs, sole traders and students.
While the consumer demographics
were eclectic, they had one strong
commonality. They all wanted reliable,
fast, simple access to design templates.
An identity that
mirrored the users' goals
Hot Chilli redesigned
Template Central's corporate identity,
stationery and website to reflect
the company's end goal: to offer
professional, distinctive design at
light-breaking speed.
We also added a new
tag line 'templates, images, fonts
and tools' to quickly define Template
Central to new visitors.
The result is a brand
that reflects Template Central's fast
growing reputation of uniqueness,
value and quality in a highly competitive
market.
An award-winning
website
The
technical requirements were extensive.
After a few long nights, we wrote
a detailed programming strategy and
implementation schedule that generated
robust website functionality.
These
included:
- A
SQL database and automated payment
gateway interface
- A
secure check-out process that validates
and bills credit cards in real-time
- Automatic
site access to validated transactions
that provides immediate access to
online portal content
- A
SQL product update system which
enables Template Central staff
to easily add and modify new products
- A
reporting system that rates popular
templates, provides sales information
and analyses other consumer and
transaction data
- An
authentication system that secures
subscriber-only portal access
- An
expiration process for expiring
log-ins at the conclusion of their
subscription terms
- An
auto-renewal process for expiring
subscriptions
- A
member and subscriber profile system
which enables updating of user details
including log-in information
Phew! Impressive huh.
And guess what? Template
Central won the inaugural National
Yellow Pages e-Business of the Year
2001 award - beating more than
700 applicants from around the country.
The website has also
featured on many television programs
and throughout the print media. Product
sales, subscribers and member numbers
continue to grow.
